- Make sure that the workers in workplace are about the safety measures and procedures while dealing with forklift
- If possible make the vehicle traffic separate from foot traffic
- If the employees are on floor for long time, try not to use forklift or limit the usage of forklift. this should be considered in shift timing, during break also
- When foot traffic and forklift traffic are working simultaneously, be sure that employees know about the forklift's is in active. Horns, back-up alarms and lights are supposed to be utilized to make workers alert of forklifts.
Operators:
- Make sure that the forklifts are handled by well experienced and competent person with valid license.
- the training for operator should covers various aspects like things which affect the stability of forklift, like the weight , symmetry of load , travel speed , pressure of tire , the way of driving, surface of operation etc.
- In case of a forklift turnover, workers working sit-down forklifts are supposed to be told to stay inside and lean the other side of turnover. As the restraint system may minimize injuries and fatalities.
- The forklift operators must be aware about the forklift capacity and they must get trained on how to handle with unbalanced load.
- If the forklift has been used to lift employees then, the operator should know the ways of performing it safely. and the workers are not supposed to be lift on forks – for this case only secure lifting performance should be used
- Other than forklift operators no one should operate the forklift.
